Success for Smithston Steers from the 2018 Colin Say Potential Show Steer Sale

At the Colin Say Potential Show Steer sale in March, Smithston steer, ‘Curly’, was purchased by Glen Innes High School.  
‘Curly’ was then shown at the EKKA and went on to win Reserve Champion in his class on the hook, scoring 91/100. 
Congratulations to Glen Innes High School for a fantastic result.

Again purchased at the Colin Say Potential Show Steer Sale by Luscombe, Chadwick Syndicate. This Smithston steer went on to be shown at the EKKA and received 4th in the hoof and 1st on the hook in his class. Then receiving the Colin Say & Co $1,000 Jackpot for the highest points out of the steers purchased from their sale.

Smithston Steer wins Colin Say & Co Hoof & Hook Jackpot

In March 2017 a 310kg Charolais cross Smithston steer was sold to Nigel and Casey Wiek, Select Fitting Services for $3022.50.

This steer went on to place 4th in his class as the 2017 Brisbane EKKA and also won the Colin Say & Co Hoof & Hook Jackpot worth $1000.

2017 Sydney Show where they won Grand Champion Cross Breed Fleece
which was sired by a Smithston Ram.

Success at Dubbo for Smithston Progeny

June 20, 2017

Congratulations to the Lewis family of Glencoe NSW in their success at the Dubbo Prime Lamb Hoof & Hook competition.

Their lambs achieved the overall highest dressing % pen measuring 70.5kg, 42.9kg dressed, resulting in a 60.9% yield.

These lambs were all sired by Smithston rams.

The Lewis family also won 1st prize in the Heavy Export Class and won the Dubbo Agents Pick Pen award.

Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal

Smithston Farms also donated the entire proceeds of one steer at the sale to the Sir Ivan Bushfire Appeal.

“I drove through the affected area, it was devastating, I had to help in someway” said Mr McIndoe.

The 260kg Angus cross charity steer sold for $12/kg totalling $3120.

Steer Sale – $3022

Glen-Innes-Potential-Steer-Sale-$3022-By-Red-Factor-Charolais

Returning $3022.50 at auction for vendors Dugald McIndoe, Smithson Farm, Glen Innes, the 310kg Charolais cross steer was sold to Nigel and Casey Wiek, Select Fitting Services described him as “well balanced, soft, easy doing with enough muscle content to suit”.

Mrs Wieck admitted she has had Smithson cattle before and they “do really well”.

“They are good soft cattle that are easily fed” added Mrs Wieck who plans to exhibit the steer at EKKA in either the late mid or early heavy class depending on his finish.
